Before it was cool...

I had to cover the most obvious convergence of science and the gospel. In 1833, a modern day prophet, Joseph Smith, received a revelation called the Word of Wisdom (WoW). The modern day law of health highlights include: avoiding any alcohol, tobacco, coffee, tea, and illicit drugs, encouraging moderation in all foods (no overeating), grains, fruits, vegetables, and meat. Doing so will bring blessings like increased health, clearer thinking, and divine protection.

This was revealed in 1833, about a century before anyone thought there might be actual health problems associated with alcohol, tobacco, etc. It took time, but science finally caught up. The government even confirms that these things are bad for your health. You may have heard that studies show that a glass of red wine with dinner is good for you, and this may make you wonder how strict you should be with the WoW. But a more recent study catches up with the revealed revelation that no alcohol is good for you. This is an area where patience is proving the power of the WoW.

On the positive side, the focus on grain, fruits and vegetables is proving to be good for you and has pretty much entered the realm of common sense. We are lucky we have such access to these foods, especially considering that in the 1800s diet was not as much of a focus as just getting enough food prepared and available to eat. The bottom line is, eat well! Science knows it is important now. The LDS church has known it for much longer. This is one of the most obvious and straightforward examples of convergence of science and religion.
